A number of European NATO countries have also warned in recent weeks about the risk of Russian aggression in the near future.
The head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, said that the possibility of a Russian attack on a NATO member country cannot be ruled out, writes dpa.
Asked if he thought Russian President Vladimir Putin might order such an attack, Heusgen said: “Of course. After all, Putin has repeatedly said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest disaster of the 20th century because As a result, many Russians found themselves outside of Russia.”
In his words, “Putin sought to restore a Great Russia within the borders of the defunct Soviet Union, a global empire over which he would rule as tsar.”
He suggested that Putin’s targets could be Moldova or the Baltic countries.
“But we must do everything to ensure that Ukraine receives the weapons and military assistance it needs to successfully confront the Russian aggressors and expel them from its territory,” he said.
A number of European NATO countries have also warned in recent weeks about the risk of Russian aggression in the near future.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in January that the alliance must prepare for a Russian attack on a NATO country within 5-8 years.
