President Zelensky announced this in his evening address. He will take the place of Lieutenant General Sergei Shaptali. He added that the chief commander, Syrsky, had already identified candidates for his deputies.
Zelensky did not name names. He said that he would subsequently sign the corresponding decrees.
Before this, Anatoly Bargilevich was the commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
TRO began to develop the troop system even before the full-scale invasion. Bargilevich was also the head of the headquarters of the OSV Khortitsa, whose troops carried out, in particular, an offensive in the Kharkov direction last year.
He replaced Sergei Shaptal as Chief of the General Staff.
Bargilevich’s candidacy, according to the president, was proposed by the new commander-in-chief Syrsky.
