After the resignation of Valery Zaluzhny and the appointment of Alexander Syrsky as the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, media are predicting who will head the Ground Forces Command and the General Staff.

Zerkalo Nedeli, citing sources, wrote on February 9 that Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Pavlyuk could become the new commander of the Ground Forces.
They plan to appoint the commander of the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF), Anatoly Bargilevich, as the Chief of the General Staff.
Pavlyuk is a lieutenant general, in 1991-2006 he rose from the commander of a tank platoon of the 47th Guards Tank Division to the deputy commander of the 30th separate mechanized brigade (OMBR).
In 2006-2007, he commanded the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo, then served as chief of staff of the 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and in 2010-2015 he was commander of the 24th Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
This brigade distinguished itself in the battles for the liberation of Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Seversk, Lisichanskaya, advanced in the Lugansk direction and ensured the release of the Lugansk airport.
Next, Pavlyuk was in the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including from July 2021 to March 2022, he served as commander of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO).
With the outbreak of a full-scale war, Pavlyuk led the defense in the East, in May 2022 – February 2023 he was chief of staff – deputy commander of the Ground Forces and commander of the Group of Defense Forces and Means of Kyiv. Subsequently, he took office as First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
From 2020 to 2022, Major General Bargilevich was deputy commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces for territorial defense. At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he led the defense of Kyiv in the Gostomel direction. For a year and a half, Bragilevich headed the headquarters of the Khortitsa operational-strategic group of troops, which participated in the offensive in the Kharkov region in 2022.
In October 2023, Bragilevich headed the Command of the TRO forces.
