Zelensky announced this today, February 8, on his Facebook page.
Met with General Valery Zaluzhny. I thanked the defense of Ukraine for two years. “We discussed what kind of renewal the Armed Forces of Ukraine need,” he noted.
According to Zelensky, during the meeting they also discussed who could be in the updated leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The time for such an update is now. He suggested that Valery Fedorovich continue to be on the team. We will definitely win! Glory to Ukraine! – the president summarized.
Zaluzhny also reported about this meeting on his Facebook page.
In the first difficult days of the Great War, we withstood a vile and strong enemy. We stood together. Our battle continues and changes every day. The 2022 objectives are different from the 2024 objectives. Therefore, everyone must change and adapt to new realities. “To win together too,” he noted.
According to Zaluzhny, he and Zelensky had an “important and serious conversation.”
A decision was made on the need to change approaches and strategies, he noted. – I am grateful to everyone who is nearby. The team of the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, the President of Ukraine. I am proud of each and everyone in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are protecting the future of our children. All soldiers, sergeants and officers. I bow my head to everyone who gave their lives for Ukraine and freedom. We remember and will take revenge for everyone.
It is still unknown whether Zaluzhny was fired, since there is no decree on the website of the President’s Office yet.
Zelensky previously stated that a number of government leaders, including in the military sector, “need a reboot.”
