The former partner of Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, Vasily Anisimov, has become the seventh billionaire to renounce Russian citizenship after the start of Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine. Forbes Russia reported this in connection with the documents provided by Anisimov.
It is noted that Anisimov renounced Russian citizenship in September 2022 and now retains citizenship of Dominica and Croatia.
The billionaire received citizenship of Dominica in the mid-1990s, which cost him about 60 thousand dollars.
“Now Anisimov is a citizen of Croatia. He received his first Croatian passport in October 2003. This required a larger investment: for several years he invested a total of $11 million in real estate in the country. The money was spent, in particular, on the construction of a sports base in Croatia on the island of Korcula. Russian rhythmic gymnasts trained there for almost 20 years, until the start of the war, “said the publication.
Forbes Russia writes that after being denied Russian citizenship, Anisimov entered Russia on a business visa, which he obtained at the invitation of the LLC company Big Domodedovo. According to the publication, Anisimov claims that he no longer owns any assets in Russia, but his former company Coalco, and with it Bolshoye Domodedovo he handed it to the managers.
Forbes estimates Anisimov’s wealth at $1.6 billion.
