The European Union is working on a formal assessment of what a Donald Trump presidency would look like.
The European Commission has started a formal assessment of the consequences of the US presidential elections in November 2024, in particular, the EU is trying to assess the potential presidency of Donald Trump if he is re-elected. Bloomberg wrote this on Wednesday, February 7.
In particular, the EU believes that the style of the former American president is becoming more aggressive, which means that his return to the White House could lead to another escalation of the trade issue across the Atlantic Ocean.
“If Trump wins, he plans to take several protectionist measures against the EU, including the introduction of a minimum tariff of 10% and countermeasures against European taxes on digital services,” the publication points out, citing sources in the EU.
The agency recalls that under the presidency of Donald Trump, the United States imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum from the EU, citing national security concerns. The European Union responded with its own measures, and in 2021 reached an understanding on this issue with the Joe Biden administration.
Bloomberg recalled that the US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. At the moment, it seems that the main competitors, as in 2020, are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Unless, of course, Trump is barred from running.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has backed Donald Trump as the next US president, saying the politician could be “exactly what the world needs” if Trump supports Ukraine.
Let’s remember that Trump said he would “end the war” in Ukraine even before his inauguration. He also criticized Europe for “giving Ukraine 10 times less money than the United States.”
