The European Commission sent a letter to Budapest with an official message. This is the first step that could lead to a potential lawsuit.
The European Union has launched legal proceedings against Hungary over its so-called “sovereignty protection” law. This was discussed in the EC message, European Pravda reports.
It is noted that on February 7, the European Commission sent a letter to Budapest with an official notification. This is the first step that could lead to a potential lawsuit.
The letter argues that the law violates a number of core EU values, including democracy, the right to a fair trial, and data protection and internal market rules.
It was previously reported that a member of the European Parliament has initiated a petition to strip Hungary of its voting rights in the EU Council. The petition was supported by 120 MEPs from different political groups and several member states.
