Russia remains the aggressor in the war against Ukraine, which is a blatant violation of the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Russia has launched North Korean-made ballistic missiles against Ukraine at least nine times. Robert Wood, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, announced this on Tuesday, February 6, at a meeting of the Security Council.
“Russia and the DPRK must be held accountable for their actions, which violate longstanding commitments under UN Security Council resolutions. These illegal arms transfers and potential technology transfers from Russia to DPRK undermines regional stability and the international non-proliferation regime, as well as confidence in the Security Council,” said Robert Wood in his speech.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Russian Federation remains the aggressor in the war and is solely responsible for the duration of the conflict.
Wood recalled the tragedy in Lisichansk, when at least 28 people were killed as a result of a shell that hit a bakery, and stressed that the Kremlin is responsible for the consequences of military actions.
“The Kremlin bears full responsibility for the senseless death and destruction caused by Putin’s aggressive war against Ukraine, which has been carried out in violation of the UN Charter,” said the US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN.
He added that despite Russia’s lack of transparency and disregard for international law, the government of Ukraine has shown a willingness to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law and fully investigate any allegations by violation or abuse committed by its forces.
Robert Wood says that while Russia feigns concern for Ukrainian civilians in the territories it occupies, Russian troops continue to torture Ukrainian civilians.
“Even as we sit here, Russia continues to violate international law by doubling down on its violations of the UN arms embargo on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” said Robert Wood.
Let’s recall that in September 2023, the leaders of the Russian Federation and the DPRK Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un held a meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. A few hours later, the DPRK began a large-scale supply of shells to Russia.
Budanov reported that North Korea is the largest supplier of weapons to Russia.
