The federal appeals court for the District of Columbia has ruled that former US President Donald Trump does not have presidential immunity in the federal case of the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. This was reported by European reality related to the court’s decision.
It was noted that the 57-page decision, adopted by the judges, reminds the hundreds of participants in the storming of the Capitol that are subject to criminal prosecution. According to the judges, Trump cannot invoke presidential immunity to absolve himself of responsibility for these events.
“In the context of this criminal case, former President Trump becomes Citizen Trump, with the same rights to a defense as any other criminal defendant,” the court said in its ruling.
