The Security Service of Ukraine on Monday, February 5, said that it has made some personnel decisions in the State Department of National Protection after the scandal over the surveillance of journalists of the publication Bihus.Info. This was reported on the SBU website.
“The SBU leadership made appropriate personnel decisions for the Department for National State Protection and optimized the directions of its work. We believe that independent media is an important part of a modern democratic society and no actions of individuals can cast a shadow on any of the editorial offices and media as a whole, all SBU employees must act exclusively to ensure the protection of the national interest of the state and society and effectively counter the enemy ,” the message said.
It was also reported that the SBU initiated criminal proceedings under the article on illegal acquisition, sale or use of special technical means of obtaining information (Article 359 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The SBU also noted that, according to available operational information, some employees of Bihus.Info are among the clients of dealers where narcotic substances are supplied to other citizens.
“In particular, one of the operators involved in criminal proceedings for the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues,” said of the statement.
At the same time, the publication Bihus.Info on the evening of February 5 stated that those who carried out the operation to install hidden cameras in the rooms of the hotel where the editorial office was located on December 27, 2023 were identified. It is possible thanks to the video from the recreation complex’s security cameras.
Specifically, the journalists said that “the Department for National State Protection (DZNG) of the SBU was responsible for the operation. Judging by the video, the Department of Operational and Technical Support of the SBU was also allegedly involved in -installation of equipment.”
We remind you that on January 16, a video was leaked online where Bihus.Info employees were allegedly using drugs. Project manager Denis Bigus said that the members of the Bihus.Info editorial team were monitored for about a year, and the cameras in the rooms of the country complex where the team members were celebrating a corporate party was placed by representatives of an “unidentified service.”
