The Polish leader questioned the return of the peninsula to Kyiv’s control, but believes that the Ukrainian Defense Forces will be able to retake Donetsk and Lugansk. The Polish president stated this in an interview with Kanal Zero.
“I don’t know whether she will return Crimea, but I believe that she will return Donetsk and Lugansk,” he said.
According to Duda, the Crimean peninsula, occupied by Russia in 2014, is “a special place… also for historical reasons.” He also added that historically, Crimea “was in Russian hands most of the time.”
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasily Zvarych has already responded to the statement of the Polish president and emphasized that complete de-occupation is our joint task and obligation to the free world. The diplomat stressed that Crimea will definitely return to Ukraine.
Crimea is Ukraine: it is and will remain. International law – basics. Russia’s temporary occupation of Crimea is a war crime for which it will be punished, he wrote on Twitter.
Let us recall that the German magazine Die Welt reported that Ukraine could launch a new counter-offensive in 2024, and the starting point could be a bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, from where it is more than 60 km to Crimea.
