Experts call Alexander Nevsky a bright symbol of Russian political Orthodoxy and Russian propaganda. OCU decided to decline to honor him.
The Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine removed Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky from the church calendar and instead decided to honor another Saint Alexander on November 23. The corresponding decision of the Synod was reported on the VCU website.
It was noted that on February 2, the OCU synod adopted the exclusion of the holy Prince of Kyiv and Novgorod Alexander Nevsky from the church calendar.
“To remove from the Church calendar of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine the day of commemoration of the blessed prince Alexander of Novgorod (Nevsky), in the schema of Alexei, November 23,” the text says.
Instead, on November 23, VCU decided to celebrate the memory of another Alexander – the founder of the “Vestless” monastery.
Let’s remember that last year OCU officially approved the transition to the New Julian calendar.
