The US Treasury Department announced that restrictions would include suppliers of materials and technology for Iran to develop ballistic missiles and drones, including Shahed kamikaze drones. The sanctions target four entities from Iran and Hong Kong that engaged in covert supply to sanctioned Iranian entities. The American department reported this.
Also on the sanctions list were six officials from the cyber command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who were responsible for a number of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure in the United States and other countries.
Bloomderg reported that US Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said Iranian proliferation “remains a critical threat to stability in the region.” He stressed that the cybercrime-related sanctions are intended to punish Iran for “deliberately targeting critical infrastructure.”
Let us recall that the media reported that the European Union began discussing a new package of sanctions, which it plans to approve by February 24 – the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
