Farmers in Poland from the Solidarity trade union announced a general strike, with the blocking of roads and border crossings with Ukraine, since the position of Brussels is unacceptable. Farmers say their patience has run out. RMF24 reported this on February 2.
Our patience has run out. The position of Brussels on the last day of January 2024 is unacceptable for our entire agricultural community. “In addition, the passivity of the Polish authorities and declarations of cooperation with the European Commission and statements about compliance with all decisions of the European Commission on the import of agricultural products and food products from Ukraine leave us no choice but to declare a general strike,” the union said in a statement.
The farmers emphasized that on February 9 at 10:00 all border crossings with Ukraine will be blocked. There will also be temporary road closures in some regions.
The union noted that it is dissatisfied with the European Commission’s proposal to extend the suspension of import quotas and duties for Ukrainian exports to the countries of the European Union for another year.
Let us recall that the other day The Guardian reported that the European Commission proposes to extend preferential trade terms for Ukraine, in particular, the suspension of import duties and quotas for another year. At the same time, Brussels turned on the so-called fuse for farmers from EU countries in order to suppress protests in France and other EU member states.
