The mobilization of 400 to 500 thousand people liable for military service will cost the state budget almost 700 billion UAH.

UAH 322 billion will be required for clothing, training, food and salary in 2024. And the additional need for the purchase and modernization of military equipment will cost about 400 billion UAH. This is a colossal amount, because UAH 700 billion is about 22.5% of all Ukrainian spending in 2024 and 41% of Ukrainian defense spending. The head of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, Roksolana Podlasa, stated this in a podcast of the Center for Economic Strategy (CES).
According to her, increasing its revenues by 40% in a few months is a difficult task for Ukraine. Podlasa emphasized that “these conversations about where to get additional money into the budget are precisely a consequence of this need.”
Let us recall that on December 19, during the final press conference, President Vladimir Zelensky said that the military proposed to mobilize an additional 450-500 thousand people. Subsequently, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that the military command did not request any numbers.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko stated that the state has already exhausted its internal potential for financing military needs several times. But it will not be possible to “artificially” increase the amount of expenses.
