The Bundestag has finally approved the country’s state budget for 2024. 388 parliamentarians of the ruling coalition voted for the draft budget, 279 deputies voted against it. No one refrained from voting for this issue. The press service of the German government reported this on February 2.
The document calls for spending totaling 476.8 billion euros, and new loans now amount to about 39 billion euros. Berlin has planned investments totaling 70.5 billion euros, for example in the rail network and roads.
The defense budget is about 52 billion euros, plus billions from a special fund for the Bundeswehr. The German budget provides about 7.6 billion euros for military assistance to Ukraine.
As you know, Germany is one of Ukraine’s main allies after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Let us recall that on January 31, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, together with the heads of government of Denmark, the Czech Republic, Estonia and the Netherlands, wrote a joint letter in which they called for the immediate transfer of ammunition and weapons systems to Kiev, including howitzers, tanks, UAVs and air defense systems.
Also on January 31, Berlin announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which included four Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles, a Biber bridge laying vehicle with spare parts, three Wisent 1 armored engineering vehicles on a tank chassis, 24 armored personnel carriers and ammunition for IRIS-T and AR air defense systems.
