Romania’s top military official called on NATO countries to replace their weapons stocks and prepare the EU population.
The population of Romania, like everyone in Europe, should prepare for the possible spread of Russian aggression in the West, because Putin will be magnified if he wins Ukraine. This was said on Thursday, February 1, by the head of the General Staff of the Romanian Armed Forces, Gheorghita Vlad, in an interview with the Romanian service of Radio Liberty.
Vlad emphasized that Russia “has become a problem for the world order and for democracy,” therefore, in fact, it is waging a war not only on Ukraine, but “on the entire democratic world.”
“The population of Romania, like the entire population of the European Union, Europe, should be worried, and we should take appropriate measures to be prepared for a possible attack,” he added.
The head of the Romanian General Staff said that Moldova could be next.
“I am more than confident that President Putin will make an increase in the near future,” Vlad said.
Georgitsa said that the Romanian Ministry of Defense has already prepared a draft amendment to the Law on Preparing the Population for Defense. It provides for the introduction of voluntary military service and may be considered before the end of 2024.
“It is important that this happens this year because all NATO countries and the whole of Europe can buy time. Time is a precious resource and I believe that not a single second should be wasted. This is the moment when everyone should think of European countries. Preparing its population. I don’t want to cause panic, but this is the reality in which we live,” the general stressed.
As we have already written, the German Bundeswehr is preparing for a possible conflict between Russia and NATO and has predicted its course for all of 2024 and part of 2025.
