In the south of Iran, in the province of Hormozgan, the construction of a new nuclear power plant with a capacity of 20 thousand MW has begun. The IRNA agency reported this on Thursday, February 1.
“As part of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to Hormozgan province, a ceremony for the construction of the Iran Hormoz nuclear power plant began in the city of Sirik. The Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Eslami, was also present. in this ceremony,” the statement said.
The Associated Press clarified that a total of four power units will be built, each with a capacity of 5 thousand MW.
Project manager Nasser Shariflou said the project will cost about $20 billion and will create 4,000 jobs. Each power unit is expected to use 35 tons of nuclear fuel per year.
Earlier it became known that Iran has again begun to increase the production of highly enriched uranium, which is necessary for the production of nuclear weapons.
