The British Ministry of Defense states that the Russian Guard has added three detachments of “Wagnerites” to its “volunteer” corps.
The Kremlin tightened control over the Wagner PMC militants after the rebellion of their former leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. In particular, some of the “Wagnerites” were combined with the Russian Guard. About that reports British Ministry of Defense on X (Twitter).
On December 25, 2023, Kremlin Chairman Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the Russian Guard to create its own “volunteer” formations. In particular, the Russian Guard added to its first so-called “volunteer” corps three former air assault detachments of the Wagner PMC – the 15th, 16th and 17th.
The Russian National Guard is likely to deploy its new “volunteer” units to Ukraine (six-month contract) and Africa (nine-month contract), British intelligence officials suggest.
“The integration of former Wagner air assault units into the volunteer corps of the Russian Guard likely indicates Wagner’s successful submission to the Russian Guard, strengthening the Russian state’s command and control over the Wagner group,” the summary said.
As you know, on September 22, 2023, information appeared that “Wagnerites” allegedly arrived in the combat zone in the Kherson region. However, the details are not known, as this information is classified as “Secret”.
Let’s add that the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the return of the Wagnerites to the eastern front. In total there were about 500 people.
