By the beginning of spring, the EU will fulfill only 52% of its promise to provide Ukraine with 1 artillery ammunition. Currently, Ukraine, starting in March 2023, has been provided with 330 thousand shells. Mostly these shells were transferred from European stocks. By March, this figure will be increased by an additional 200 thousand. This was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at a briefing after an informal meeting of the defense ministers of EU member states, UNIAN reports.
In total, according to Borrell, by March Ukraine will be provided with 524 thousand artillery shells out of the promised million. This ammunition will be transferred through individual and general purchases, as well as from existing stocks.
The EU emphasized that the entire mechanism of the European defense industry has now been launched. And by the end of the year, as Borrell suggests, Ukraine will receive more than 1 million shells.
Let us recall that on January 11, the speaker of the European Commission, Johanna Bernsel, assured that the European Union would produce a million shells for Ukraine by spring.
