The UN will reach an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain, the diplomat believes.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, considers Russia’s blocking of Ukrainian grain exports as a war crime. He said this on Monday, June 20, before a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
“Incredibly, it is impossible to imagine that millions of tons of wheat remain blocked in Ukraine, and in other parts of the world people are suffering from hunger. This is a real war crime. I can’t imagine that. it’s going to take longer. Otherwise, it’s something Russia has to take responsibility for, “Borrell said.
He expressed hope that the UN would eventually reach an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain.
“We have made progress, we are moving forward. Hopefully no one can withstand the pressure from the international community. Hopefully, and more than hope, I am sure that eventually there will be an agreement with the UN.” Said the diplomat.
“The consequences of the war are becoming more dangerous not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world,” Borrell added.
Last week, the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania, on a visit to Kyiv, called on the Russian Federation to unblock the export of Ukrainian grain.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian troops were not allegedly blocking Ukrainian ports.
