This happened against the backdrop of rumors about the replacement of Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny. Some bloggers and anonymous sources wrote that Budanov should become the new commander in chief. In an interview with the “We are Ukraine” channel, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate spoke more about the strategy of the war, and not about the successes of Ukrainian intelligence.
It’s the enemy’s turn. It will end, and ours will begin—that’s the title of the message about the interview on the GUR’s social networks, published on the morning of January 31
Budanov said that the Russian state program, which is called “parallel import,” is actually legalized smuggling, and components for the Russian military industry come from different countries, both east and west. In his opinion, no one has been able to completely stop Russians’ access to foreign components.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate assured that no country is able to completely cover the expenses incurred by Russia during the war. Much more is spent than is produced.
The number one need is ammunition. For the Russians, these are 152 and 122 mm calibers, missiles for Hurricanes, Smerchs, and Grads,” Budanov said.
He suggested that during Putin’s upcoming visit to North Korea, the conversation will primarily be about increasing the volume of arms supplies to the Russian Federation, as well as deepening relations between them, in particular about cooperation in the field of missile technology.
Increase in supply [з кндр до рф]first of all, there will definitely be artillery weapons,” Budanov said.
As for the theater of military operations, in his opinion, Russia is now conducting an offensive operation, which began in November 2023.
As of today, it has been going on for two and a half months. […] Unfortunately for us, they have made some progress in the fields near Avdiivka, which is what happened. But this is not what they expected. The occupiers wanted to reach the barrier line along the Black Stallion River in the Kharkov region and the administrative border of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions as quickly as possible. There is nothing even close to this. Their advance will continue. Somewhere in early spring it will dry up. […] It’s the enemy’s turn. It will end, and, I think, ours will begin.
