The European Union has developed a roadmap for transferring income from Russian fixed assets to Kyiv. The first part of the journey is over.
EU officials have already discovered and identified all Russian assets on their territory. Deputy Minister of Justice Irina Mudraya said this on Facebook following a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, January 30.
“It is certainly known that we are talking about 260 billion euros, of which 210 billion euros are frozen in Belgium and Luxembourg,” Mudraya wrote.
He said that Ukraine has already received support from Belgium.
“Yes, Belgium, we are on our side and have 100% support for the fact that the surplus profits from the seized assets will go to Ukraine for its restoration. The political, legal, economic risks economy is now being discussed – but rather “yes” than “No.” The Belgian government, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have assured us that they will do everything necessary to ensure that the issue of sending of surplus income will be resolved during the country’s presidency of the EU,” wrote the representative. of the Ministry of Justice.
In total, according to him, four steps have been developed for the transfer of Russian assets to Ukraine, of which the first – search and identification – has already been completed.
Next, the EU must accumulate assets in an account with Euroclear. Although this process will require approval from all 27 countries, according to Mudra, the European Commission has promised to do so quickly.
The next step, the actual transfer of income from the assets, will also require EU approval.
“So far the EU is not united in the direction of excess income from assets in Ukraine, but on this issue they assured us: yes, we are working, wait,” said Mudraya.
As for the transfer of actual assets, according to the official, the EU is not yet ready to talk about it, preferring “step by step” tactics.
Mudraya also recalled that the G7 is actively working on this issue and there are some changes in the adoption of the law in the United States.
We remind you that the previous day, the ambassadors of the European Union supported the use of income from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine.
It was also reported that the US Senate Committee approved a law that would help Washington to confiscate Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine.
