This was announced today, January 30, on the president’s website.
During the meeting Zelensky:
- thanked Rasmussen for his attention to issues of security and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine;
- noted the importance of the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine, which the G7 countries approved at the NATO summit in Vilnius;
- noted the need to conclude bilateral agreements on security obligations in accordance with this declaration. The first such agreement has already been signed with the UK, and negotiations are ongoing to conclude relevant documents with other countries;
“I thank your group with Andrey Ermak for your help in creating the draft Kyiv Security Treaty, which formed the basis of the Vilnius Declaration and provides for such serious security obligations,” Zelensky noted. — There are already first results: a very important security document has been signed with Great Britain. Work continues with other states. I hope for results in the near future.
It is noted that Rasmussen, for his part, noted the efforts of Zelensky, thanks to whom the situation in Ukraine remains at the top of the world agenda.
Rasmussen and Ermak also told Zelensky about plans to create an international working group on security and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
Zelensky expressed hope that this working group will contribute to Ukraine’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic security space. According to Zelensky, Ukraine, as a future NATO member, will be able to significantly strengthen the potential of the Alliance, since the Ukrainian army has invaluable experience in waging a full-scale war against Russia.
Rasmunsen was NATO Secretary General from 2009-2014.
