There is no cure for polio, but vaccination is a reliable prevention of this disease, reports the Ministry of Health.
340 thousand doses of oral polio vaccine were delivered to Ukraine. The press service of the Ministry of Health reported this today, January 30.
The Ministry of Health reminds that polio is a dangerous disease that affects the nervous system and can lead to paralysis and death without treatment. There is no cure for polio, but vaccination is a reliable prevention of this disease; Poliomyelitis is one of the 10 vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccination against which is included in the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar and is carried out free of charge. Children under the age of 5 who have not been vaccinated and, therefore, have no immunity against the virus are most vulnerable to polio.
“By the end of 2023, the level of vaccination coverage against polio in different age groups will exceed 80%, however, according to WHO recommendations, the indicator indicating that the population is protected from vaccine-preventable disease thanks to vaccinations should be 95%. The entire course of vaccination allows you to build immunity for life. Therefore, it is important to check your vaccination status and, if you did not get a vaccination, consult a doctor and get caught,” said the Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin.
We remind you that in October 2022, an outbreak of polio was recorded in Ukraine. In September 2023, the WHO announced the end of the polio outbreak in Ukraine.
