The Hungarian Foreign Minister informed that the Hungarian side formulated a request in 11 points, Ukrinform reports.
In particular, we are talking about restoring the status of the national school, the ability to prepare a matriculation certificate in Hungarian and to use Hungarian in public life. According to him, the commission was instructed to agree on these issues as soon as possible and develop proposals for the ministries.
Hungary and Ukraine will create a joint commission, which in 10 days will present a full list of unresolved issues relating to Hungarian minorities, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said after negotiations with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjártó.
In particular, we are talking about resolving Budapest’s claims under the language law, which, according to the Hungarian authorities, infringes on the rights of national minorities in Ukraine.
We do not ask for anything more than the return of the rights of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia, which they had before 2015. This includes the opportunity to study and take exams in your native language. “I am here today to restore trust in our bilateral relations,” Szijjártó said at a press conference.
In addition, he added that the issue of allocating EU assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros “is not bilateral, so it will be discussed in Brussels.”
Earlier, the political director of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Balazs Orbán, said that Budapest could block the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU if the country’s demands under the law on the language of education for minorities are not met.
What is known about Szijjarto’s trip to Uzhgorod
After the negotiations, Andriy Ermak confirmed the preparations for a meeting between Orban and Zelensky after the ministers’ visit to Uzhgorod.
Szijjártó’s visit on January 29 began with a visit to the largest city cemetery in Uzhgorod – Kalvaria.
More and more dead on the battlefield, we must not allow even more to die! The war must end, human life can only be saved by peace,” Szijjártó wrote.
It should be noted that the Hungarian minister’s trip to Uzhgorod was illustrated on his social networks with photographs similar to the illustration of an action film.
