Biden is being asked to ensure that Speaker Johnson provides the necessary resources to protect America’s border.
The administration of US President Joe Biden presented the traditional Republican request to protect the Mexican border to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson. This was announced in a briefing on Monday, January 29, by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
So, he commented on Johnson’s statement about the “dead” deal that Republicans and Democrats are making in the Senate on changes to immigration policy and the allocation of a $61 billion military aid package for Ukraine that is tied to them.
“We have worked in good faith on both sides of Parliament to make real progress on one of the most important issues. We are faced with the issue of protecting our border. Now we need Speaker Johnson to step up and provide necessary resources. We demand to protect the border. I want to draw your attention to something: until recently, Speaker Johnson also advocated for new resources and new laws,” said Jean-Pierre.
He emphasized that over the past two months, the White House has worked with a bipartisan group of senators to create “the toughest and fairest border security legislation in history.” Jean-Pierre recalled that the Donald Trump administration wanted the same thing and that Congressman Johnson fully supported the legislative changes that radical Republicans decided to block today.
Let’s remember that last week it was reported that US senators entered into an agreement on border restrictions with Mexico. However, according to media reports, former President Donald Trump is trying to destroy the agreement with Congress because he wants to make the immigration issue central to the 2024 presidential race.
