The Greek authorities ordered the preparation of a package of equipment and weapons for transfer to Ukraine. The request for the transfer of weapons to Ukraine was contained in a letter from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The Greek newspaper Kathimerini writes about this.
Blinken wrote that priority would be given to providing the Hellenic Air Force with the KC-135 military transport aircraft, which would enhance the operational capabilities of Greek fighter jets. At the same time, Greece can sell or transfer equipment to Ukraine that its army does not require, with the possibility of financing up to $200 million.
It is noted that the Greek government has instructed that these outdated systems and equipment be transferred to Ukraine in order to provide resources for new equipment programs.
It is currently unknown what will be transferred to Ukraine. The Greek army is armed with the Soviet air defense systems Tor, Osa, S-300, and ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns.
Previously, the US State Department agreed on the sale of F-35s to Greece worth $8.6 billion.
Let us recall that at the end of the summer of 2023, the German government offered Greece to transfer its own Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine in exchange for the same number of modernized vehicles.
