Sergei Malinkovich is the second after Putin to submit documents to the Russian Central Election Commission to participate in the elections.
The Central Election Commission of Russia on Sunday, January 28, received documents from presidential candidate Sergei Malinkovich, nominated by the party Russian Communists. On the party’s website he is called “Stalin’s candidate,” Radio Liberty reports.
The CEC said that the representatives of this party brought 19 boxes with signature sheets. Now they are undergoing verification, for which 10 days are allotted. The law of the Russian Federation requires the collection of 100 thousand signatures in support of registration as a candidate.
Malinkovich became the second candidate after Putin to bring the required number of signatures to the Central Election Commission.
In the 2018 election, the representative of the “Communists of Russia” in the presidential election of the Russian Federation was Maxim Suraikin. The election campaign of this party is mainly aimed at getting votes from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, that is, it actually works for the current Kremlin government.
In total, eight people have collected or continue to collect signatures for registration as a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Federation. Among them is Boris Nadezhdin, the only candidate who openly opposes the war in Ukraine. The Central Election Commission previously registered three candidates from parties represented in the State Duma without collecting signatures.
The deadline for submitting documents to the CEC expires on January 31.
As you know, Vladimir Putin’s current power as head of state will expire on May 7, 2024. The next presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for March 17, and for the first time in history they will last for three days.
Earlier, the media found out who will “compete” with Putin in the election. The main criterion for the selection of candidates used in the Kremlin is age over 50, so that Putin does not look like a “grandfather” compared to them.
