Denys Shmyhal spoke about the six benefits that Ukraine will receive due to the status of a candidate.
In light of the likelihood of Ukraine gaining the status of a candidate for the European Union, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal spoke today, May 19, about what it will give our country.
“The move to the EU will allow us to modernize our state, and we are interested in making all the changes as soon as possible. Ukraine is Europe, and soon Ukraine will be a member of the European Union , “he wrote.
Shmygal also named the benefits that the status of a candidate for EU membership in Ukraine should provide.
“First, it is a legal unification of the future of Europe of Ukraine. This means that Ukraine is not only one day potentially able to join the EU, but the process is launched, and it meets a significant number of the criteria presented for the candidates.
Preparing for membership includes completing comprehensive change in all areas. In this Ukraine will continue to be supported by the European Commission, which provides the necessary consulting and other assistance.
Ukraine will be a full member of EU programs and initiatives, which are open to both EU countries and to the status of a candidate for membership. Ukraine, as a candidate country, will have more opportunities to have its voice heard in shaping EU policies.
Having received candidate status and started membership, Ukraine will become more attractive to investors. The business climate will approach conditions similar to those in EU countries – investors will operate in a predictable market, and business will be protected. Being attractive to investors also requires strong security guarantees after the victory against Russia.
Ukraine will have access to financial assistance for countries preparing to join the EU (Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance, IPA). Such assistance may be provided through grants, investments or as technical assistance.
In addition, by raising funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine today through a special solidarity trust fund, the EU will treat such investments as a rebuilding after the war of a third country, but as an investment in the welfare of a potential EU member in the future. .
Earlier, the EU committee supported the granting of candidate status to Ukraine.
The final decision on granting Ukraine such status will be made on June 23-24 at a meeting of the European Council.
