The Russian disinformation campaign on former Twitter was intended to increase dissatisfaction with the government in German society and undermine support for Ukraine. Spiegel reports this.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, experts analyzed the short message network X using special software. During the investigation period from December 20 to January 20, more than 50 thousand fake accounts were identified. In total, more than a million German-language tweets were published on them.
Among other things, the reports included accusations that the federal government was supporting Ukraine while neglecting the interests of the Germans.
Disinformation has become a global threat factor, the Foreign Ministry spokesman told Spiegel. “It is deliberately used by those who do not share our values to destabilize the goals of society – not just in Western democracies, but everywhere.
