The man had to have a hysterectomy to remove his uterus before doctors discovered the pregnancy.
In Italy, doctors discovered that a woman who underwent a male sex change was five months pregnant. The Telegraph reported it.
In particular, the man who took the name Marco has already undergone surgery to remove his breasts and is preparing for a hysterectomy – a gynecological operation to remove the uterus.
It is believed to be the first case of its kind in Italy, but the unexpected discovery has raised concerns about the baby’s welfare and whether the fetus has been affected by the procedures Marco has undergone so far.
“When pregnancy is detected, the first thing to do is to immediately stop hormone therapy. If the therapy is not stopped immediately, there may be consequences, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy, which is an important period for the development of organs of the baby,” says Julia Senofonte, endocrinologist and gender therapy expert.
Doctors are also concerned that hormone therapy has begun to take effect. This can be seen in Mark’s appearance: he began to grow body hair and a beard.
At the same time, some experts believe that high levels of both male and female hormones in the human body can cause a risk to the heart, increasing the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes, although not enough also convincing research on this topic.
Mark was expected to carry the pregnancy to term and deliver the child. He will be the child’s biological mother, but will be legally registered as the child’s father.
According to Italian law, abortion after 90 days is only allowed if the pregnancy seriously threatens the health of the mother or there are serious problems with the fetus.
It was previously reported that the Finnish company Vuokkoset, which produces hygiene products, has released “tampons for men.”
