The resolution calling for Ukraine’s support in granting the status of a candidate to the European Union was unanimously supported by all factions and groups of parliament.
The Verkhovna Rada voted for a resolution calling on EU countries to support Ukraine in granting candidate status to the European Union. This was announced by the people’s representative from the Holos faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Sunday, June 19.
“Parliament is unanimously supported by all factions and appeal groups (7471) in the EU countries in granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership! For – 315,” wrote the deputy of people.
According to the explanatory note, the document aims to appeal to the national parliaments and governments of EU member states, as well as to EU institutions, with calls to:
-
support Ukraine’s aspirations for recognition of its European perspective;
-
pay attention to food security and take the necessary measures to unblock Ukrainian ports;
-
investigate and punish those responsible for war crimes;
-
increase the procurement and provision of weapons in Ukraine;
-
introduce the 7th package of sanctions on the EU, which increases the strict pressure of sanctions on Russia and Belarus, which focuses on a complete embargo on imports of Russia’s major exports;
-
ban Russian shipping, logistics and access to ports on the territory of EU member states.
Recall that on June 17, the European Commission approved Ukraine’s application and recommended that the country be granted the status of a candidate for EU membership, followed by certain necessary steps.
The media also reported that the European Commission has proposed a mechanism to cancel the status of a candidate if Ukraine does not carry out reforms.
