The department reported this to several Ukrainian media, in particular, “League” and “Public”.
The investigation is carried out under Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
Currently, the SBU is carrying out a set of measures to clarify all the circumstances of the plane crash. The pre-trial investigation continues.
Background
On January 24, a Russian Il-76 transport plane, which the occupiers use to transport military cargo, crashed in the Belgorod region of Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that there were supposedly Ukrainian prisoners of war on board the downed Il-76. The Main Intelligence Directorate stated that they did not have verified information about who exactly was on board the Il-76, but confirmed that there was indeed a planned exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which “did not take place.”
President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an evening video message that Ukraine would insist on an international investigation.
Air Force Commander Nikolai Oleshchuk said that by making false claims about the alleged death of Ukrainian prisoners on board the Il-76, the Russians are trying to reduce assistance to Ukraine from their partners.
