In Japan, 45-year-old Shinzo Aob was sentenced to death for setting fire to an animation studio in Kyoto.
A Japanese court has sentenced to death the perpetrator of the 2019 arson attack on an animation studio in Kyoto that killed 36 people. Kyodo News wrote this on Friday, January 25.
It was noted that 45-year-old Shinzo Aoba admitted to burning down the premises of an animation studio accused of plagiarism.
Prosecutors sought the death penalty for the man. They said the accused was fully capable of taking responsibility. The lawyers insisted that the defendant was wrong about the plagiarism, and this led to the incident. According to them, Aoba suffered from mental illnesses.
The judge found that the man was not in a state of mental incompetence or diminished capacity at the time of the crime. Aoba suffered from delusional disorder, but the judge said the diagnosis had little effect on his behavior.
Let’s remember that on July 18, 2019, a man entered the building of an animation studio in the city of Kyoto in Japan, poured gasoline on it and set it on fire. Due to the fire, 36 died, 32 were injured and hospitalized.
The man who set fire to an animation studio explained his actions by saying the studio stole the idea for the work from him.
