Cyber volunteers from the BO Team group attacked the Far Eastern research center for space hydrometeorology “Planet”, which receives and processes data from satellites, and also provides relevant products to more than 50 government entities, primarily the military. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported this on Telegram.
It is noted that hackers were able to destroy 280 servers, and the volume of destroyed information amounted to about 2 petabytes (200 million gigabytes) of data. The cost of this digital array can be at least 10 million dollars.
Hackers erased weather and satellite data actively used by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Roscosmos and a number of other departments. Unique research accumulated over the years was also destroyed.
And the supercomputer with which the center was equipped cannot be restored. The cost of this device along with software costs 350 thousand dollars. Intelligence officials noted that under sanctions, Russia is unlikely to be able to obtain such software again.
The GUR added that the hackers also completely cut off from the network the Russian station in the Arctic on Bolshevik Island, which performs important tasks in the military sphere of the aggressor state.
In total, dozens of Russian strategic companies working for the defense industry and playing a key role in supporting the Russian occupation forces will remain without critical information and services for a long time, the intelligence agency noted.
Let us recall that in December last year, the Ukrainian IT army paralyzed the work of one of the largest Russian automated enterprise management systems, 1C-Rarus, the service of which is used by 150 thousand users, including technology giants and war sponsors Tatneft and the Russian VTB Bank. The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine stated that the Russian economy thus suffered millions in losses.
