At the end of December, it became known that “20 Days in Mariupol” was included in the shortlist of the Oscars in two categories: “Best Foreign Film” and “Best Documentary Film”.
The film by Ukrainian journalist and documentary filmmaker Mstislav Chernov tells about the invasion of Mariupol by the Russian army in February and March 2022.
The film tells the story of the brutal siege of a Ukrainian city by Russians, which resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people. The beginning of a full-scale invasion, the bombing of a maternity hospital, and the rescue of journalists from a surrounded city are shown.
For this work, Chernov, together with photographer Evgeniy Maloletka and producer Vasilis Stepanenko, received the Pulitzer Prize. In January, the film won the Audience Award at the Sundance American Independent Film Festival.
