Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak reported this on the X network on January 22.
According to the journalist, on Wednesday the ambassadors of the European Union should give the green light to start saving funds in a separate account.
Later they will be used for the needs of Ukraine.
Today Borrell also said that the EU will not stop supporting Ukraine because of the situation in the Middle East.
The fact that we are looking for solutions to the situation in the Middle East does not mean that we do not continue to support Ukraine. Do not worry. Ukrainians have nothing to worry about. European support remains as strong as ever and will continue,” Borrell told Radio Liberty.
According to Borrell, the situation in Ukraine will be first on the agenda for today’s meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba will speak first.
This issue will also be on the agenda of the meeting in Gymnich, an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states.
In addition, the European Union is preparing a multi-year package of military assistance to Ukraine worth 20 billion euros. An unofficial document from the EU foreign policy service has been obtained by Radio Liberty.
Josep Borrell’s office proposes to reform the European Peace Fund, from which EU member states were reimbursed for the cost of weapons transferred to Ukraine, and to create a special military fund for Ukraine on its basis.
It will absorb the current assets of the European Peace Fund (about 6.5 billion euros) and, in addition, will be replenished annually by 5 billion euros over the next four years.
