According to EU law, “a state that does not guarantee protection against corruption cannot receive funding.”
Slovakia could face financial sanctions if it adopts reforms that violate the rule of law. This was stated by the Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, Vera Jourova, in an interview with AFP.
He noted that according to EU law, “the state does not guarantee protection against corruption and cannot receive funds.”
Jourová called on Robert Fico’s Slovak government to hold broad consultations on the reforms, adding that the prosecutor’s office system “must be completely apolitical.”
He also called for a review of the controversial criminal reform.
“Problems begin to appear when the winner of the election tries to exert as much influence as possible on issues that, according to the rule of law, should not be influenced by public policy,” said Jurova.
Remind us that the Prime Minister of Slovakia considers Ukraine not ready for EU accession negotiations.
