He is not sure whether the state “in which this is happening is really moving to the EU and whether the authorities are aware of the full danger of the moment?”
On January 22, Klitschko published a post critical of the authorities on his social networks, in which he skeptically assessed what is happening in Ukraine today with democratic freedoms and principles and where the state is moving.
A German friend, very knowledgeable in matters of world politics and the war in Ukraine, called me with these questions. But even he said that he was frankly embarrassed by the latest high-profile events – the persecution of independent journalists, threats, wiretapping and interference in the personal lives of media workers critical of the government, the mayor wrote.
Klitschko recalled that the case against the owner of one of the largest investment companies – Concorde Capital – Igor Mazepa was initiated many years ago, and the bail is 100 times more than the stated amount of losses. bail, which prosecutors initially sought. It was reduced by half, but still to a colossal amount. The mayor also recalled that “at night, Mazepa’s country house accidentally burned down.”
Igor Mazepa is the one who openly spoke about pressure on business in Ukraine. The one who tried to unite businesses in order to stand together against the arbitrariness of law enforcement officers. Because lately more and more businessmen have been complaining about crazy extortions, about demands to give away a share in the business or to give it away completely. If you don’t agree, there will be criminal cases, searches, loud statements, and they may even find a “Russian trace,” Klitschko wrote.
Background
The Manifesto 42 movement, in response to the arrest of Igor Mazepa, demands that the authorities solve the problem of pressure on business and is preparing a warning protest. The association will stop its enterprises for an hour if the authorities do not respond to its demands. This is stated in a statement by the social movement.
Meanwhile, Igor Mazepa’s defense filed an appeal against the decision of the Pechersky District Court, according to which the businessman was taken into custody with an alternative to bail of 349 million hryvnia. This is stated in a statement from the company representing Mazepa’s interests.
At the same time, they noted that the appeal will be supplemented when they receive the full text of the ruling of the Pechersky District Court.
Since January 19, businessman Igor Mazepa has been in the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center. His lawyer Taras Poshivanyuk, in a comment to hromadske, said that Mazepa is in acceptable conditions, “as far as possible in the conditions of the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center.”
The businessman was given a preventive measure in the form of detention until February 27 with the possibility of posting almost UAH 350 million in bail. His brother Yuri was also sent to the pre-trial detention center. The court sent two more suspects into custody, setting bail at UAH 45 million and UAH 20 million.
