The Falcon 10 passenger aircraft stopped communicating and disappeared from radar on the evening of Saturday, January 20. This happened in the skies over Afghanistan near the border with Tajikistan. Afghan police reported a plane crash in the northern province of Badakhshan. This was reported by Reuters and the Federal Air Transport Agency.
It is preliminary known that there were six people on board the plane – two passengers and four crew members. The ship itself was performing a charter ambulance flight on the route Gaya (India) – Tashkent (Uzbekistan) – Zhukovsky (Russian Federation). The first departure point was Utapao Airport in Thailand.
The plane that crashed in Afghanistan was registered in the Russian state aircraft register. The owner of Falcon is identified as Athletic Group LLC and an unnamed private individual.
Let us recall that in November, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev said that due to Western sanctions imposed against the Russian aviation industry, Russia lost 76 passenger aircraft. The United States and the EU have banned the supply of aircraft and components to the Russian Federation, and also obliged lessors to return aircraft already leased. Bloomberg reported that the number of these aircraft accounted for up to 40% of the Russian fleet.
