The head of state has not seen enough clear details to say that 500 thousand Ukrainians need to be mobilized.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky currently sees no need to mobilize half a million people into the army. He said this in an interview with Channel 4 News, published on Sunday, January 21.
“Now, I don’t see the need to mobilize half a million people. I think so. Not because I want to somehow respond and please someone… It’s just that this is not only life, life is number one. And the second history means corresponding actions and corresponding operations. And therefore today I have not seen enough clear details to say that half a million have to be mobilized,” said the head of state.
The third important factor, according to Zelensky, is the financial support of those mobilized. He noted that these needs are not provided by Western partners, but by the Ukrainian budget.
“That’s why, when we say half a million, we have to think. There is a request, we have to calculate everything correctly,” added the head of state.
Zelensky also repeated his recent words that mobilization in Ukraine is, first of all, a matter of justice. It would be unfair to bypass those defenders who have been at the front since the beginning of a massive war and need a break.
“So we need a mobilization law that is smart and fair. That is, for the military, it is necessary. It cannot be said that the army is enough for them. It is dishonest and unjust… Unfair bypass when someone dies for you , and it is fair that a person should know where it goes, how long, how much it will be prepared,” stressed the president.
Let’s remember that in December 2023, Vladimir Zelensky announced that the military received a proposal to increase the mobilization of 450-500 thousand people.
