By the end of this year, it is expected to reach 1.4 million shells. Next year production will increase even more.
In 2024, the countries of the European Union will produce from 1.3 to 1.4 million shells. Most of them will be sent to Ukraine as military aid, said European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton, reports RTBF.
“We will continue to increase our production capacity to probably 1.3-1.4 million units by the end of this year and continue to increase it significantly in 2025,” Breton said.
According to him, EU countries will reach the goal of producing one million shells per year in March or April 2024.
“We are experiencing a decisive moment for our collective security in Europe, and with the aggressive war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, Europe must continue to support Ukraine in every way,” he added.
Breton also noted that most of the ammunition fired in 2024 will be sent to Ukraine, as helping the warring country is a priority.
Let’s recall that in March 2023, at the summit, the leaders of the European Union supported a plan to provide ammunition to Ukraine in the amount of 1 million artillery shells over the next 12 months. However, in January, he gave only about 300 thousand of the promised million.
