Another attempt by Russian troops to capture Kharkov or Kyiv cannot be abandoned, sources say.
Russia may be planning a major offensive on the Ukrainian front in the summer of 2024. This was reported by the British newspaper Financial Times, citing sources on Friday, January 19.
“He (hurts, – edit.) The aim is to capture the remaining four regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye – which Putin claims were annexed by September 2022,” the article said.
In addition, according to unnamed officials, another attempt by the Russians to capture Kharkov or Kyiv cannot be abandoned.
According to an American intelligence assessment, reviewed by FT journalists in December, Vladimir Putin’s ultimate goal in Ukraine remains unchanged – the Kremlin wants to conquer Ukraine and conquer its people.
“This explains why Russia continues offensive operations in eastern Ukraine in different directions, especially in the area of Avdiivka, as well as near Liman and Kupyansk,” the newspaper wrote.
At the same time, one of the Western officials in a comment assessed the prospects for a breakthrough from both Russia and Ukraine in 2024 as small.
The publication predicts that Ukrainian troops will be on active defense for most of this year.
Let’s remember that this week Putin threatened an “irreversible blow” for Ukraine. He made it clear that the longer the war goes on, the less territory the Ukrainian authorities will be able to control.
