The head of NATO’s military committee, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, said the alliance should not assume that it would continue to live in peace and should prepare for a war with Russia that would greatly affect ordinary people.

Bauer spoke to reporters on January 18 in the afternoon, but his statements were most fully quoted by the Friday edition of the British newspaper Daily Telegraph, which carried the headline “NATO warns of war with Russia in next 20 years” on the front page.
We must realize that the fact that we live in a state of peace is not something to be taken for granted. And that is why we are preparing for conflict with Russia. But the debate is much broader. This is both the industrial base and the people who must understand that they play a role, the Telegraph correspondent quotes Bauer.
He praised Swedish authorities for warning citizens to prepare for war.
This is where you need to start. Based on the realization that not everything can be planned and not everything will be smooth sailing for the next 20 years, the admiral said.
Next week, NATO begins large-scale exercises Steadfast Defender 2024, which will involve about 90 thousand troops (including 20 thousand British). These exercises will continue until May.
Bild previously wrote that Russia could attack the eastern flank of NATO countries as early as next winter, in particular through Belarus.
