The air defense forces worked within the Sumy, Nikolaev, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk, Kirovograd and Khmelnytsky regions.
The Russian Federation attacked the territory of Ukraine with the help of 33 Shahed-136/131 type attack drones from the Primorsko-Akhtarsky district and the Kursk region on the night of January 18. The air defense forces destroyed the 22 drones. The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported this on Telegram.
The Russians also fired two S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles in the Kharkov region.
The main directions of attack are south and north. Air defense forces worked in Sumy, Nikolaev, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk, Kirovograd and Khmelnytsky regions.
“The forces and means of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed 22 enemy UAVs. Many more drones did not reach their targets. Anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire groups, electronic warfare equipment were involved in repelling the air attack,” the message said.
Let’s remember that in the Odessa region, 11 drones were shot down while approaching the coast, most of them fell into the sea. But the remains of several downed drones and the blast wave damaged apartment buildings and shops in the Primorsky district of Odessa. Fires broke out in several places – apartments and cars were burnt.
In October 2023, it was reported that the FrankenSAM hybrid air defense system will appear in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Moreover, one option combines Buk launchers and Sea Sparrow missiles, the other – Soviet radar and Sidewinder missiles. They have been tested on US military bases.
