The German parliament on Wednesday, January 17, did not support a draft resolution of the opposition CDU party calling for the transfer of Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the German government.
It is noted that an important bill for Ukraine was rejected. 485 deputies spoke against it, and 178 parliamentarians voted for it. Three German elected officials abstained from voting.
However, the final say on arms exports remains with the federal government, in particular the Federal Security Council.
As you know, Taurus is a long-range air-launched missile that is launched from aircraft. Ukraine already has similar missiles in its arsenal: the French SCALP and the British Storm Shadow.
Its launch weight is 1 thousand 360 kg, and the warhead weighs 481 kg. The fuselage length is 5.1 m, the fuselage width is 1.08 m. The range of the Taurus wasteland is approximately 500 km, the missile can reach subsonic speed.
A separate feature lies precisely in the warhead, since it uses the MEPHISTO tandem concrete-piercing warhead to destroy both fortified targets and infrastructure.
Earlier it was reported that German politicians from coalition partner parties, the Greens and Free Democrats (VDP), as well as the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), noted the need to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine and made serious accusations against Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
