The ruling coalition believes that the time has come to give a clear commitment to the immediate delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine.
Returning from Kyiv, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was criticized by his own coalition for not making any promises on the supply of heavy weapons during the visit. On Friday, June 17, Spiegel reported.
“The time has come to finally give a clear commitment to the immediate delivery of heavy weapons,” said Bundestag deputy from the Christian Democratic Union Johan Wadeful.
He added that only the German chancellor’s promise to support giving Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate for EU membership can be called a “good signal”.
In turn, co-chair of the Greens parliamentary group Britta Hasselman called the support of Ukraine and Moldova the right decision at the right time.
Also, the leader of the parliamentary group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Rolf Mützenich, stressed that Scholz’s statement about the European future of Ukraine has historical significance.
Recall, the other day in Irpin, Scholz said that Russia’s actions in the war against Ukraine were aimed only at destruction. At the same time, he did not give a direct answer to a German journalist’s question about how his visit would affect the supply of arms to Ukraine.
As reported, the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania arrived in Ukraine yesterday and visited Irpin, after which they talked with the country’s leadership.
