Since the spring of 2022, a new service format has existed in Poland – the active reserve, but it is not popular. According to the publication Rzeczpospolita, citing the Ministry of Defense, only 165 people signed a contract for such a service last year.

The Polish Army General Staff will develop a new active reserve model that will become more attractive to former military personnel. Innovations will be based on Scandinavian and American models – total force concept.
A reservist up to 60 years of age (in the case of officers – up to 63) can enroll in such service. A serviceman who has signed an open-ended contract will be able to simultaneously work in the civilian sector. He will be required to report to the military unit at least two days per quarter – during free time from work – and once every three years for 14 days.
For each day of service he will receive payment (the amount will depend on his military rank). Active reserve military personnel may be deployed on a mission or international mission. In addition, they will act as experts and instructors for the formation of young personnel.
Similar types of services are actively developing, for example, in Britain and Denmark.
