SBU counterintelligence detained a Russian military intelligence agent who was correcting Russian missile attacks on Zaporozhye.

The SBU press center reported this today, January 16.
It was established that, following his guidance, the invaders fired at residential buildings in the village of Stepnogorsk on the eve of 2024, the SBU notes. “Then, as a result of an enemy strike, a 43-year-old man was killed, many private houses were damaged or completely destroyed.
The detainee is a security guard at a local kindergarten. According to the intelligence service, in December last year he was remotely recruited by a representative of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (known as the game).
He came to the attention of the occupiers because of his friend, a choir member of the local church of the UOC (MP), who fled to the temporarily occupied part of Zaporozhye, where she works for the special service of the aggressor country, the SBU said.
It is noted that, according to the instructions of the Russian game agent:
- collected intelligence information about the locations and movements of the Defense Forces in the Zaporozhye direction. The enemy was especially interested in the places of greatest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian troops;
- corrected Russian missile attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure in the region, which caused civilian suffering.
SBU officers detained a Russian agent in his own home. During the search, his mobile phone was confiscated, which the attacker used to communicate with the Russian in a game over a popular instant messenger.
The detainee was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, part 2 art. 111 of the Criminal Code (state treason committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons), he is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
